Zomato Parent Eternal Receives ₹3.7-Crore GST Demand Order Including Interest and Penalty

Eternal, the parent company of food delivery platform Zomato and quick-commerce arm Blinkit, has received a goods and services tax (GST) demand order amounting to ₹3.69 crore, including interest and penalty, for the financial year April 2019 to March 2020.

The order was issued by the Additional Commissioner of State Tax (Appeals), West Bengal, and relates to the alleged short payment of output tax, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing on Tuesday evening.

According to the filing, the demand includes GST dues of ₹1.92 crore, interest of ₹1.58 crore and a penalty of ₹19.24 lakh, taking the total demand to ₹3,69,80,242.

Eternal said it believes it has a strong case on merits and plans to file an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority. The company added that it will pursue all legal remedies available under law.

Eternal is the holding entity for Zomato, one of India’s leading online food delivery platforms, and Blinkit, a key player in the country’s rapidly expanding quick-commerce segment.
