Swiggy’s Food on Train Service Crosses 180 Cities, Q1 Orders Jump Threefold

Swiggy has expanded its Food on Train service to more than 180 cities across India, reporting a threefold year-on-year increase in orders during the April–June quarter (Q1 FY27), driven by strong demand during the summer travel season.

The company said multi-station bookings, where passengers order meals at two or more railway stations during a single journey, surged over 300% year-on-year. Customers using the feature spent nearly 2.2 times more than those placing orders at a single station. The Bhopal–Nagpur route emerged as the busiest two-stop ordering corridor, with more than 1,300 passengers placing orders at both stations during the same trip.

To simplify the ordering process, Swiggy has introduced a new “Scan Your Ticket” feature that enables users to upload their train ticket, automatically detect the PNR number and place food orders without manually entering travel details.

The platform has also expanded its network by adding 17 new railway stations, including Gurugram, Udaipur, Bikaner, Davanagere, Kayamkulam, Nanded, Amravati, Shoranur, Arrah, Tadpatri and Nizamabad.

According to the company, the service is witnessing increasing adoption in smaller towns. At Guna railway station in Madhya Pradesh, 66% of Food on Train orders came from first-time Swiggy users.

“Food on Train has witnessed exponential growth in the last one year, and the last quarter has been no different, with a threefold year-on-year growth in orders. It is encouraging to see customers across the country increasingly booking meals in advance, while travellers in smaller towns are discovering digital food ordering for the first time,” said Deepak Maloo, Vice President – Food Strategy, Customer Experience and New Initiatives at Swiggy.

Roti emerged as the most-ordered food item during the summer, with more than four lakh servings ordered through the platform. Other popular dishes included masala dosa, aloo paratha, McAloo Tikki Burger and chicken biryani, which was the most-ordered non-vegetarian item.

Demand for beverages also rose significantly during the season. Mango shake orders increased nearly tenfold compared to winter, while soft drink orders grew 354%, lassi orders doubled and ice cream orders rose 140%.

Among restaurant brands, Haldiram’s, Paradise Biryani, A2B – Adyar Ananda Bhavan, McDonald’s and KFC were the most preferred choices for train travellers.

Swiggy said its Food on Train service is helping accelerate digital adoption beyond metropolitan cities, with emerging towns recording 253% year-on-year growth, outpacing larger urban markets. The company currently partners with more than 2.7 lakh restaurants across over 720 cities.
