The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the food licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals with immediate effect after uncovering multiple serious violations at the company’s nutraceutical manufacturing facility in Punjab, intensifying its enforcement drive against non-compliant food businesses.
Following an inspection, the regulator said the unit was operating under “severely deficient” Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS), with deficiencies significant enough to pose a risk to public health.
“The Nutraceutical Manufacturing Unit was found to be operating under severely deficient Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS),” FSSAI said in a statement posted on social media.
Citing gross violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the regulator ordered the company to halt all manufacturing operations until the identified deficiencies are fully rectified and compliance is established to the satisfaction of the competent authority.
“The FSSAI licence has been suspended with immediate effect. The Food Business Operator (FBO) has been directed to immediately cease all operations until all deficiencies are rectified and compliance is established,” the authority said.
According to FSSAI, inspectors identified major non-conformities across critical operational areas, including infrastructure, sanitation and housekeeping, pest control, storage and handling practices, process controls, personnel hygiene, water quality monitoring, and maintenance of records.
The regulator said the findings reflected a serious failure to ensure the safety, quality and traceability of nutraceutical products manufactured at the facility.
The action is the latest in a series of enforcement measures by FSSAI as it steps up scrutiny of food businesses across categories. In recent months, the regulator has cracked down on companies for misleading labelling and claims on energy drinks and alcoholic beverages, and has issued notices to several e-commerce platforms for alleged food safety violations.
FSSAI said its enforcement actions are based on consumer complaints, suo motu investigations and routine inspections conducted by food safety officers, with updates on regulatory actions being shared through its official social media channels.
