Almonds continue to be the top nut for global new products

The latest report from Innova Market Insights, the “2022 Global New Product Introductions Report,” has revealed that almonds have maintained their position as the top choice among nuts for global new product introductions. After facing a setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic, almonds have made a strong recovery, with a remarkable 12,198 new products featuring almonds introduced on a global scale in 2022.

As of now, almonds have found their way into an array of food categories. The leading segments for new product introductions featuring almonds include confectionery, bakery, snacks, bars, cereals, and dairy. These six categories together contribute to an impressive 87% of the total almond-based product launches.

A noteworthy trend is the higher propensity of almond-incorporated products to include health claims. Over 20% of products containing almonds showcase specific health-related claims, with a significant portion highlighting their gluten-free nature.

This nut has clinched the top spot among various nuts globally, particularly in the context of products making plant-based, vegan, and vegetarian claims. Their popularity in these categories further cements their position as a versatile and sought-after ingredient in the modern food industry.The resurgence of almonds in new product introductions reflects their adaptability and consumer appeal across a broad spectrum of food sectors. The report underscores almonds’ role in driving innovation, developing health-conscious formulations, and catering to diverse dietary preferences.
