The Centre has approved large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Price under the Price Support Scheme, giving relief to farmers in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The approval was given by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan through video conferencing. The move is aimed at protecting farmers from distress sales and ensuring better price realisation for pulses and oilseed crops.
Uttar Pradesh has received the largest procurement approval under the decision. For the Summer 2026 season, the Centre has cleared procurement of 48,298 metric tonnes of moong, 97,970 metric tonnes of urad and 41,718 metric tonnes of groundnut. The total MSP value of this procurement is estimated at more than ₹1,490 crore.
In Gujarat, procurement of 18,250 metric tonnes of moong has been approved for the Summer 2026 season, with an MSP value of over ₹160 crore. The decision is expected to support moong growers by helping them secure assured prices.
For Tamil Nadu, the Centre has increased the moong procurement limit for the Rabi Marketing Season 2025–26 from 885 metric tonnes to 990 metric tonnes. This means an additional 105 metric tonnes of moong will be procured, taking the total MSP value to ₹8.68 crore.
Haryana has also received approval for the procurement of 2,115 metric tonnes of moong during the Summer 2026 season, with a total MSP value of more than ₹18 crore.
The decision is being seen as an important step for pulse and oilseed farmers, particularly at a time when market prices can fluctuate sharply. By expanding procurement under the Price Support Scheme, the Centre aims to strengthen farmer income protection and ensure that growers receive the benefit of MSP.
