Delhi Police Bust Massive Spice Scam, Uncover Dangerous Ingredients in Masala Production

In a significant crackdown, Delhi Police have exposed a large-scale racket involved in the production and distribution of adulterated spices in the Karawal Nagar area of northeast Delhi. The operation resulted in the seizure of a staggering 15 tonnes of spurious spices and the arrest of three individuals linked to the illicit trade.

Dilip Singh (46) and Sarfaraj (32), identified as the owners of the processing units, along with Khurseed Malik (42), were apprehended for their involvement in distributing these adulterated spices to local markets and vendors across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). The suspects were reportedly selling the fake spices at the price of genuine products.

During the raids conducted on May 1, police discovered the use of banned substances and non-edible items such as spoiled leaves, rice, millets, wood dust, chilli heads, acids, and oils in the manufacturing process. Despite attempts to evade capture, Singh and Sarfaraj were caught and admitted to their roles in the illicit operation.

Further investigations led to the uncovering of another processing unit on Kali Khata Road, where Sarfaraj was found manufacturing adulterated spices. The Department of Food & Safety was promptly informed, conducting inspections and collecting samples for analysis. Legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant sections of the law, with all three individuals remanded to judicial custody.

Authorities underscored the serious public health risks posed by the distribution of adulterated spices, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to safeguard consumer welfare. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to uphold food safety standards and combat fraudulent practices in the market.
