The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is boosting entrepreneurship and employment across India’s food processing sector through a series of incentive-based schemes tailored for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiatives include two Central Sector Schemes—Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI)—alongside the Centrally Sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. Together, these programmes aim to expand processing infrastructure and formalize micro enterprises.
Under the PMFME scheme, individual entrepreneurs can access a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the eligible project cost, capped at ₹10 lakh per unit. As of June 30, 2025, approvals have been granted to 1,44,517 micro food processing enterprises. Additionally, 1,16,666 beneficiaries have undergone training under its capacity-building component, which covers entrepreneurship development and product-specific skills.
Projects sanctioned under PMKSY and PLISFPI further extend benefits to MSMEs, strengthening sectoral growth. In Bihar alone, MoFPI has cleared 13 projects under PMKSY, 7 under PLISFPI, and 25,349 proposals under PMFME.
Officials said these schemes are acting as a catalyst for sectoral development by supporting entrepreneurs, creating jobs, and enhancing value addition in India’s food processing industry.
