Minister Kruse of Nagaland opens a fruit and vegetable processing facility

According to the minister of Women’s Resource Development and Horticulture, the new processing centre demonstrates the society’s dedication to innovation, progress, and quality.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Nagaland’s first female minister, dedicated the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society’s (CWWS) fruit and vegetable processing plant in T Chikri, Pfutsero, on Friday,28th July 2023.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture stated that the new processing centre demonstrates the society’s dedication to innovation, progress, and quality.

According to an official release from the minister’s press secretary, Kruse thanked the society for its numerous contributions in various fields since its inception and described the commissioning of the processing centre as “another milestone and a new chapter that will propel the society towards even greater success in the future.”

“I am proud to know that the society has the privilege of collaborating with a number of both government and non-governmental organisations that work tirelessly for the advancement of women in particular and society in general.” It’s encouraging to see how well the CWWS is doing. “You are an inspiration to our Naga women,” Kruse said.

The minister also stated that the state administration, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is focusing on agricultural and horticultural produce livelihood projects as an essential aspect of the state’s economy. She remarked that the state is working to increase the nutritional and commercial worth of the crops.

She further stated that the Department of Horticulture is working hard to achieve holistic growth in the Horticulture sector through well-defined state-specific policies to enhance production and productivity of fruits, vegetables, spices, and flowers.

In connection with the launching of this processing centre, she expressed hope about achieving a common aim of promoting and developing local food and, in particular, uplifting women.

“Let us celebrate this milestone together and look forward to a future that is defined by continued success and excellence,” she added.

She also introduced value-added goods manufactured from pineapple, lemon, spring onion, banana stem, and other natural ingredients.

Director, CWWS, Nezelu Nyekha, in a brief summary of the society’s activities, stated that it was able to successfully complete the upgradation of the unit under the project of the fruit and vegetable processing centre within six months, thanks to the CSR sponsored by NEDFi and SBI general insurance, as well as a contribution from CWWS, for a total cost of Rs 1.30 lakhs.

She stated that CWWS has been concentrating on human development from its establishment, with an emphasis on women’s empowerment and societal development. Every Chakhesang woman is a member of the society, which works across the whole district of Phek, Nagaland.
