Mithai industry gets a voice in Rajay Sabha, Ashok Mittal

Two businesspeople, an IIT professor, and a cricketer are among the five Rajya Sabha members. The AAP won a landslide victory in the assembly elections and is now in power.

On Monday, 21st March’22, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann escorted the party’s candidates to the Vidhan Sabha headquarters to register their nominations. After winning 92 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections, the AAP was given the opportunity to propose five members to the Rajya Sabha.

Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, IIT-Delhi associate professor Dr. Sandeep Pathak, senior party leader and Delhi MLA Raghav Chadha, Lovely Professional University Chancellor Ashok Mittal, and Ludhiana-based industrialist Sanjeev Arora have all been nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Rajya Sabha elections on March 31.

With AAP winning 92 of 117 Assembly seats, all five were expected to be elected to the Rajya Sabha.

It is a wonderful honour for us and the whole mithai sector that one of our industry’s family members has been nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP. We genuinely hope that Ashok ji would do his best for his state and country as a whole. We are also confident about his being an industry voice in the Rajya Sabha will prove useful to the sector.

Ashok ji has grown the family company founded by his late father, Baldev Raj Mittal, alongside his brothers Naresh Mittal and Ramesh Mittal, which began with a tiny shop in Jalandhar Cantonment in 1964. In 2005, the Mittal family founded the Lovely Professional University (LPU), the state’s first private university.
