Mondelēz International moves the Delhi High Court against Parle Products

Mondelēz International, the maker of Oreo cookies in India files a case against Parle Products in Delhi High Court. It has purported that Parle has copied its Oreo cookies and that the Indian biscuit maker’s Fabio biscuits are ‘deceptively similar to Oreo cookies. As per court documents, the case has been filed by a unit of Mondelēz International, Intercontinental Great Brands.

The court will be hearing the matter on April 12. As per the documents, Mondelēz International had asked for an earlier hearing date but the High Court has stuck to April 12. In similar cases last year, Britannia Industries had dragged Future Group and ITC to court over trademark infringement allegations for their various biscuit products.

The intensive competitive biscuit market in India has witnessed several similar court cases of alleged trademark infringement among various companies.

Early last year, Britannia Industries had filed a trademark infringement case against Future Consumer, alleging that the Kishore Biyani-led company had copied the packaging of several of its biscuit brands.
