Orion India Expands Korean Snacks Portfolio to Meet Growing Demand

Orion India, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Orion Holdings, has announced plans to strengthen its Indian snack portfolio by introducing new products and ramping up production capacity. Saurabh Saith, Managing Director of Orion India, revealed that the company is intensifying its focus on local snacking favourites like Choco Pie dessert snacks and Turtle Chips.

With a vision to cater to surging demand, Orion India is scaling up production at its existing manufacturing facility in Rajasthan while also unveiling new snacking offerings. Additionally, the company has enlisted actor Palak Tiwari to endorse its Turtle Chips franchise in India, aiming to enhance brand visibility and consumer engagement.

The increasing popularity of Korean cuisine in India has prompted major brands to diversify their portfolios with Korean-inspired products. Notable examples include Nestlé’s introduction of Maggi Korean BBQ noodles and ITC’s expansion of its Bingo chips range to include Korean variants.

Saurabh Saith emphasized the importance of differentiation in a crowded market, highlighting the need to break through the clutter of similar products. NielsenIQ data indicates a significant uptick in the Indian market for Korean noodles, reflecting a growing consumer appetite for Korean flavours.

The snack market in India is witnessing robust growth, driven by factors such as low barriers to entry, a penchant for all-day snacking, and localized innovation. According to a report by market research firm IMARC Group, the country’s snack market is projected to surpass Rs 95,521.8 crore by 2032, more than doubling its value from the previous year.
