PepsiCo India has outlined progress across water stewardship, regenerative agriculture, circular packaging and nutrition as part of the company’s 2025 ESG Performance Update.
Farming footprint
The India business engages with around 36,000 farmers across 14 states and sources 100% of its chip-grade potatoes locally. Its Smart Farms programme, developed with Cropin, now covers more than 18,000 mapped acres and delivers insights to over 7,000 farmers. Micro-irrigation has reached 100% adoption across potato farms in key sourcing regions, including more than 2,300 acres in Uttar Pradesh. Through initiatives such as Mitti Didi, the company is also deploying soil-health diagnostics and digital farming insights across its farmer network.
Water stewardship
Water management remains a key focus area, with PepsiCo replenishing more than 100% of the water used at manufacturing facilities located in high water-risk areas. At its Pune facility, water utilisation has been cut by more than 90%, the company said. Globally, PepsiCo has replenished 23 billion litres of water into local ecosystems since 2010.
Packaging and logistics
On packaging and logistics, PepsiCo India is compliant with Extended Producer Responsibility requirements for its foods and beverages business, while select beverage products are transitioning to 100% recycled PET bottles. Biomass now accounts for 97% of its fuel mix, and its Kosi–Pataudi EV Green Corridor operates 13 electric container trucks, with more than 800 vehicles retrofitted for cleaner mobility.
Nutrition and portfolio shift
The company said more than 50% of its beverage portfolio by volume in India is now low- or zero-sugar. It is also expanding its convenient-food range with offerings such as baked variants and millet-based products, in response to shifting consumer preferences.
