Swiggy has resolved a licensing issue flagged by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) concerning its food ordering and delivery platform, Toing, bringing to a close a regulatory matter that the company says had no bearing on food safety or its business operations.
In a regulatory filing, the food delivery major disclosed that it had received a prohibition order dated July 6 from the FSSAI’s designated officer in Karnataka over certain observations related to the FSSAI licence issued to Toing. The issue, however, was confined to the updation of licence particulars and did not involve any food safety violations, the company clarified.
Swiggy said it promptly addressed the regulator’s observations and was issued a modified FSSAI licence on July 9 after completing the required updates.
The company emphasised that no monetary penalty had been imposed and that the development is not expected to have any material financial or operational impact. It also noted that the matter was administrative in nature and does not affect the safety or quality of food delivered through the platform.
Swiggy further explained that the disclosure to stock exchanges was made after the company had evaluated the regulatory order and completed the necessary compliance process.
The clarification comes at a time when the FSSAI has stepped up regulatory oversight across India’s food ecosystem, with increased scrutiny of licensing compliance, labelling standards and food safety practices. Swiggy’s swift resolution of the issue underscores the growing importance of regulatory compliance for digital food platforms operating in India’s rapidly expanding online food delivery market.
