Tea production in India faced a setback, recording a 6.18% decrease to 127.12 million kgs in November 2023, as per data from the Tea Board. In comparison, the production in the same month of the previous year stood at 135.49 million kgs.
In North India, including major tea-producing regions like Assam and West Bengal, the production volume dropped to 106.23 million kgs from 114.18 million kgs in the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, South India reported a decrease in production from 21.31 million kgs in November 2022 to 20.89 million kgs in November 2023.
Notably, small growers outpaced organized gardens in production, contributing 67.50 million kgs in November 2023, as per Tea Board data. The Tea Board had implemented plucking restrictions during the winter months to ensure the quality of the bushes.
