Women Entrepreneurs Transform India’s Food Industry as Swiggy Honours 28 Leaders on Women’s Day

Women entrepreneurs are increasingly reshaping India’s food and beverage industry, driving innovation and creating new business opportunities in a sector that was once largely male-dominated.

To mark International Women’s Day, food delivery platform Swiggy recognized 28 women leaders from the F&B ecosystem through the 2026 edition of its “She The Change” initiative, themed “From Vision to Venture.” The programme celebrates women who are redefining India’s culinary landscape through entrepreneurship and culinary excellence.

The awards were presented in two categories—Entrepreneur of the Year and Chef of the Year—honoring women who have made significant contributions to innovation and leadership in the food sector. Among the honorees were Aditi Dugar of Masque, Alina Alam of Mitti Cafe, and Saloni Kukreja of Indu Ice Cream.

The ceremony was attended by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, India’s Minister of Tourism and Culture, along with Sriharsha Majety, Co-Founder and CEO of Swiggy.

According to the company, more than 70,000 women-run restaurants are currently listed on the Swiggy platform, reflecting the growing role of women-led businesses in India’s food economy.

Addressing the event, Shekhawat highlighted the importance of women-led enterprises in driving inclusive economic growth, particularly in smaller cities. He noted that organisations supporting women entrepreneurs play a key role in expanding opportunities and strengthening India’s broader economic ecosystem.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, said the initiative aims to recognize the resilience, creativity, and leadership of women who are building successful food businesses across the country.

Industry observers say the rise of women-led ventures—from restaurants and cafes to specialty food brands—reflects a broader shift in India’s culinary landscape, where entrepreneurship, digital platforms, and changing consumer tastes are opening new avenues for women in the sector.
