WayCool Foods, an Indian agri-commerce startup, has announced a USD 5 million investment in Siddhi Vinayak Agri Processing Pvt. Ltd (SV Agri), one of the country’s fully integrated companies in the potato supply chain ecosystem. WayCool and SV Agri will be able to use their strong supply chain eco-systems to improve the quality and delivery of Potato Seed, Storage and Processing pan India.
Over the previous few decades, India’s domestic demand for potatoes has gradually expanded. Potato consumption in India is 1.25 million tonnes per day, and it is steadily increasing, making it the country’s fourth largest food crop. SV Agri boasts of providing Indian farmers with some of the best-in-class Potatoes thanks to their partnership with Agrico, a world-renowned Dutch cooperative.
With WayCool’s investment, SV Agri will be able to launch a wider range of seed potatoes and expand their existing storage options, as well as get access to WayCool’s extensive network throughout South India and internationally. By combining the two supply chains, the companies will be able to enhance production of high-quality potatoes for Indian consumption while also meeting worldwide demand.
SV Agri wants to launch a new low-glycemic potato variety dubbed ‘Carisma.’ The new variation has a 58-point glycemic index, compared to an 80-point glycemic index for the existing potato variant. ‘Carisma’ has been highly received in health-conscious markets around the world and will soon be available in India.
