Zomato Cracks Down on Fake Dairy Dishes, Warns Restaurants of Delisting

Zomato has rolled out a zero-tolerance policy targeting the sale of analogue — or synthetic — dairy dishes across its platform, giving itself the authority to pull any listing found in violation.

The food delivery company said in a statement Monday that, effective immediately, it has delisted dishes that restaurant partners had themselves declared as containing analogue dairy. Zomato framed the move as part of a broader push toward greater transparency and improved food quality for customers.

Under the new policy, restaurants have been directed to take corrective action right away. That means either switching to natural dairy ingredients or, where an immediate transition isn’t possible, dropping the affected items from their menus entirely. Partners have also been instructed to cross-check product labels and supplier ingredient declarations to make sure what’s actually being used matches what’s listed on the platform.

Restaurants that fail to comply will be removed from Zomato altogether, the company said.

The policy is the latest step in Zomato’s broader effort to promote healthier food choices and greater transparency for consumers, in line with existing regulatory standards.

“At Zomato, our core mission is better food for more people, and that means safeguarding customer health and upholding clear standards for what’s listed and served by our restaurant partners,” said Aditya Mangla, CEO of Zomato. “This policy reflects that commitment, one we’re taking together with partners who share it.”
