Cargill Expands Presence in India with New Corn Milling Plant in Gwalior

Cargill has strengthened its footprint in India’s food manufacturing sector by inaugurating a new corn milling plant in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The facility, established by Indian manufacturer Saatvik Agro Processors, is set to cater to the increasing demand from the country’s confectionery, infant formula, and dairy sectors.

With these industries boasting a combined market value of $15 billion and projected to grow at annual rates between 6% and 11% over the next five years, the demand for starch derivatives is rising. These derivatives are crucial as thickening and stabilizing agents in consumer products like gummies, jellies, fillings, yogurt, cheese, processed milk, and infant formula.

Saatvik Agro Processors has developed this dedicated production facility for starch derivatives with an initial output capacity of 500 tons per day, scalable to 1,000 tons per day. The plant leverages Cargill’s global product expertise, customer network, and market access while integrating Saatvik’s local manufacturing capabilities and operational knowledge. This combination aims to provide consistent, safe, high-quality solutions to Cargill’s food manufacturing clients across India.

Operating exclusively for Cargill, the new facility will adhere to the company’s stringent global food safety and quality standards. The plant will also enhance innovation and improve process efficiencies within the industry. By expanding its production capacity in India, Cargill aims to optimize supply chains and meet growing consumer demand more effectively. The plant’s strategic location will enable Cargill to better serve customers in North, Central, and Western India, reducing reliance on supply from the southern regions and improving cost and logistical efficiencies.

While the facility will initially focus on domestic demand, Cargill plans to explore export opportunities to expand its market reach in the future.

The plant was inaugurated by John Fering, Group President of Food APAC, and Simon George, President of Cargill India and Managing Director for Food South Asia. George emphasized that the Gwalior plant enhances Cargill’s ability to serve customers in North and West India competitively while improving supply chain efficiencies. He added that this step aligns with Cargill’s commitment to integrating global expertise with India’s robust manufacturing capabilities, supporting local entrepreneurs, and fostering industry growth.

Cargill’s latest initiative reflects its dedication to providing innovative, high-quality food ingredients and solutions, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in India’s expanding food and beverage sector. This move also aligns with the ‘Make in India’ vision, promoting sustainable growth for businesses and consumers alike.
