Britannia Industries Ltd on 10th Nov’25 announced the resignation of Varun Berry from his roles as Executive Vice-Chairman, Managing Director, and Chief Executive Officer, marking the end of a decade-long tenure that redefined one of India’s most iconic FMCG companies.
Berry tendered his resignation on November 6, 2025, and the company’s board, at its meeting held on November 10, approved the waiver of his notice period. “Accordingly, he shall be relieved from the services of the company with effect from the close of business hours on November 10, 2025,” Britannia said in a regulatory filing.
Under Berry’s leadership since 2014, Britannia — best known for its Good Day, Marie Gold, and NutriChoice brands — evolved from a biscuit manufacturer into a diversified food company with a strong presence in dairy, snacking, and adjacent categories. His tenure saw the company significantly expand its market share, strengthen its distribution network, and navigate macroeconomic challenges with resilience.
Following Berry’s exit, he will also cease to be a member of several key board committees, including the Stakeholders Relationship, CSR, Risk Management, Finance, Strategy and Innovation Steering, and IT Committees.
Britannia’s board has approved the appointment of Rakshit Hargave as the new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for a five-year term beginning December 15, 2025, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. Until Hargave assumes charge, Natarajan Venkataraman, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, will serve as interim CEO.
It was reported that Hargave, who stepped down as CEO of Birla Opus effective November 1, was expected to take up a senior leadership role at Britannia. Birla Opus, a Grasim Industries company, confirmed that Hargave would officially exit on December 5, citing his desire to “pursue career opportunities outside the company.”
Berry’s departure marks a significant leadership transition for Britannia Industries, as the company enters a new phase of growth under fresh stewardship.
