The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sought an explanation from quick-commerce platform Blinkit following a consumer complaint alleging illness after consuming curd purchased through the app.
According to sources, the complainant reported experiencing severe stomach pain and diarrhoea shortly after consuming the product and subsequently required medical attention. A medical prescription was reportedly submitted along with the written complaint filed with the food regulator.
FSSAI has issued a notice to Blink Commerce Pvt. Ltd., the company operating Blinkit, directing it to provide an explanation and submit a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) regarding the matter.
Sources indicated that the regulator has recently received multiple complaints concerning the sale of unhygienic, spoiled, or damaged food products by sellers operating on the Blinkit platform. The latest complaint has prompted further scrutiny of food safety practices on the platform.
Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, e-commerce food business operators are responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of food products sold through their platforms.
This is not the first time Blinkit has come under the regulator’s attention. Earlier this month, FSSAI sought clarification from the company over consumer complaints related to the sale of poor-quality eggs.
The regulator continues to monitor food safety compliance among online food retailers as consumer reliance on quick-commerce platforms grows across the country.
