The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has conducted inspections of canteens operating within the premises of the Bombay High Court as part of its ongoing crackdown on food safety and hygiene across the state.
According to an FDA official, a team inspected the High Court canteens on Thursday and is currently preparing a detailed report for submission to senior authorities.
“Our team inspected the canteens at the Bombay High Court. We are preparing a report, and once it is submitted to the higher authorities, an official statement will be issued,” the official said.
The inspection is the latest in a series of enforcement actions undertaken by the FDA since IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe assumed charge as Commissioner in May. Under his leadership, the department has intensified surveillance of food establishments across Maharashtra, inspecting restaurants, eateries, milk collection centres and dairies to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
The agency has also stepped up its campaign against milk adulteration, resulting in the closure of several milk collection centres and dairies across the state.
In recent weeks, the FDA suspended the food business licences of the Cricket Club of India, the MIG Cricket Club in Bandra East and three other clubs in Mumbai over alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms, signalling a stricter enforcement approach aimed at improving food safety standards in public and commercial establishments.
