Shri. Shiv Ratan Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Bikaji Foods International Ltd and the visionary founder of the iconic Bikaji brand, passed away on 23rd April’26, Thursday morning in Chennai. He was 74.
According to family sources, Agarwal complained of uneasiness and was rushed to a private hospital in the Tamil Nadu capital, where he breathed his last. He had been in Chennai in recent days to care for his wife, who had undergone a heart bypass surgery and was advised rest.
Agarwal, a resident of Sardulganj in Bikaner, established the Bikaji brand in 1993. What began as a modest entrepreneurial venture evolved into one of India’s most recognized traditional snack companies, taking the legacy of Bikaneri bhujia to global markets. Under his leadership, Bikaji became synonymous with quality, authenticity, and large-scale innovation in India’s mithai and namkeen industry.
From humble beginnings in Rajasthan to building a nationwide and international footprint, Agarwal’s journey reflected both deep-rooted tradition and sharp business acumen. His contribution helped transform regional specialties into packaged, branded products that resonated with modern consumers across geographies.
Condolences poured in from across political and industry circles. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed deep sorrow, noting that Agarwal played a pivotal role in giving global recognition to Bikaneri bhujia. “His demise is an irreparable loss,” Gehlot said, extending prayers for the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.
Agarwal’s passing marks the end of an era for India’s traditional snack industry, where he stood as a towering figure who bridged heritage with scale, and local craftsmanship with global ambition.
