FSSAI Initiates 1,411 Prosecution Cases against Food Businesses for Violations since April

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has undertaken stringent measures to enforce food safety regulations, initiating a total of 1,411 prosecution cases against food business operators (FBOs) since April this year. These cases encompass a range of violations, including operating without a valid license and distributing unsafe food products.

FSSAI has been diligently inspecting food products across various categories such as milk and milk products, spices, packaged drinking water, nutraceuticals, sauces, pickles, chips, and jaggery to ensure compliance with safety standards and product quality.

In a statement released today, the FSSAI declared, “According to the records, 1,411 prosecution cases have been initiated against FBOs found violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, since April 1, 2023.” The regulatory body emphasized that these actions are part of their ongoing efforts to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the food industry.

FBOs found in violation of food safety rules are subject to fines and legal actions under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI is working closely with state and union territory food authorities to monitor food product quality and safety by drawing and testing samples. Their continued vigilance ensures that consumers in the country receive food products that meet the highest standards of safety and quality.

The FSSAI has also issued a stern advisory to all food business operators, urging them to strictly adhere to the prescribed standards for food products and to implement safe and hygienic practices during manufacturing. Non-compliance with these standards will result in severe action against offending FBOs, as warned by the FSSAI.

Consumers and stakeholders alike are closely watching these developments as the FSSAI’s actions continue to shape the landscape of food safety and regulation in India.
