Government Initiates Action Plans to Boost Exports of 20 Agricultural Products

In a bid to enhance India’s presence in global exports, the government is formulating comprehensive action plans for approximately 20 agricultural products. These include popular items such as bananas, mangoes, potatoes, and baby corn, among others, with plans expected to be finalized within the next 3–4 months.

Rajesh Agarwal, Additional Secretary of the Department of Commerce, emphasized the need to address the low share of India’s exports in the global market. He stated, “We have identified 20 products where India’s current export share is relatively low. We are developing detailed action plans for each of these products, which will be discussed with stakeholders, including states, for further implementation.”

The list of products undergoing this strategic initiative also includes fresh grapes, pomegranate, watermelon, guava, green chilli, capsicum, okra, garlic, onion, groundnut, alcoholic beverages, cashew nuts, buffalo meat, jaggery, natural honey, and ghee. India aims to significantly increase its global export share from the current 2.5% to 4-5% over the next few years through targeted efforts and collaborative action.
