ICAR-IARI Enters QS Rankings 2026, Secures Global Spot in Agriculture

ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has made its debut in the QS World University Rankings 2026, securing a position in the 151–200 band in the Agriculture & Forestry subject category.

The 121-year-old premier institute is among only four Indian institutions to feature in this band, alongside Banaras Hindu University, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and University of Delhi, underscoring its growing global standing in agricultural research and education.

Dr. M L Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), said the recognition aligns with the government’s focus on building skilled human capital and strengthening agricultural higher education under the National Agricultural Research Education and Extension System (NAREES).

The QS subject rankings assess institutions based on parameters such as academic reputation, employer perception, research impact, and international collaborations. IARI’s entry reflects its sustained contributions to agri-food systems, scientific research, and human resource development.

The institute’s performance highlights its integrated approach combining fundamental research, applied science, and field-level outreach, particularly in areas such as crop improvement and climate-resilient agriculture.

The debut marks a significant milestone for India’s agricultural research ecosystem, positioning IARI among leading global institutions advancing science-led solutions for food security and sustainability.
