The 11-year agreement strengthens PepsiCo’s position in the market as Coca-Cola intensifies competition for major fast-food beverage contracts.
PepsiCo has secured a significant victory in the US beverage market after Taco Bell, owned by Yum! Brands, extended its longstanding partnership with the company for another 11 years, ensuring that PepsiCo beverages remain available at participating restaurants through 2036.
The agreement, announced on October 22, comes as PepsiCo faces growing competition from Coca-Cola, particularly in the foodservice sector, where major restaurant chains represent valuable distribution channels.
Under the renewed partnership, Taco Bell will continue serving Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Pepsi Zero Sugar, Starry and other PepsiCo beverages across its US restaurants, including Taco Bell Cantina and Live Más Cafe locations.
Strategic Win Amid Coca-Cola Competition
The agreement follows a setback for PepsiCo after KFC, another Yum! Brands chain, decided to replace Pepsi beverages with Coca-Cola products at approximately 3,700 US restaurants beginning January 2027.
The switch ends a relationship spanning nearly four decades and represents an important gain for Coca-Cola.
Against this backdrop, retaining Taco Bell provides PepsiCo with greater stability in its restaurant distribution business and protects an important source of beverage sales.
Baja Blast Drives Brand Loyalty
PepsiCo and Taco Bell have maintained a close relationship for decades, developing exclusive products that have become closely associated with the restaurant chain.
One of their most successful collaborations is Mountain Dew Baja Blast, introduced exclusively at Taco Bell in 2004. The tropical lime-flavoured beverage has since grown into a billion-dollar brand.
Other joint innovations include Mountain Dew Baja Midnight, Baja Blast Gelato and Doritos Locos Tacos.
The renewed agreement is expected to accelerate beverage innovation, with both companies planning new flavours, customised drinks and promotional programmes aimed at attracting younger consumers.
Focus on Functional and Energy Beverages
The partnership will increasingly focus on emerging beverage categories, including energy drinks, functional beverages and premium crafted refreshments.
PepsiCo and Taco Bell are exploring new products designed to appeal to Generation Z consumers and expand beverage consumption beyond traditional lunch and dinner occasions.
Taco Bell’s Refrescas platform is also expected to support innovation through distinctive flavours and customised beverage combinations.
The strategy reflects changing consumer preferences as beverage companies diversify beyond conventional carbonated soft drinks.
International Expansion Opportunities
The partnership also covers Taco Bell operations in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Thailand, creating opportunities for PepsiCo to introduce locally relevant beverages and promotional initiatives.
The agreement comes as PepsiCo faces pressure in North America, where beverage volumes declined 2% in the latest reported quarter.
Although financial terms were not disclosed, the extension provides long-term business visibility and strengthens PepsiCo’s presence in the restaurant sector.
For PepsiCo, retaining Taco Bell represents more than protecting an existing contract. It reinforces the growing importance of exclusive beverages, product innovation and strategic restaurant partnerships in defending market share.
As competition between PepsiCo and Coca-Cola intensifies, the Taco Bell agreement offers PepsiCo a valuable opportunity to strengthen consumer loyalty and expand its foodservice beverage business.
