July 24, 2020

The world is still grappling with the severe outbreak of the ongoing coronavirus bringing all the gatherings a stop. The planners of the key international food processing trade fair ‘SIAL’ which was scheduled to be staged in Paris this 2020 October have confirmed that the exhibition is postponed until 2022.

Started in 1964, the event takes place every two years, hosts some of major themes including ingredients and solutions for confectionery and bakery sectors among its many core areas of focus in food industry.

Nevertheless, the Comexposium Group which is behind the trade fair said there had been a “significant shift” in opinion among its international audience who had favoured putting the event back with no revised date for 2021. This means that it will revert to its next anticipated date of 15th to 19th October 2022.

According to an official statement on its decision based on the current year, the organizers said that every effort had been made in an attempt to bring the event on platform in 2020, including adopting a stringent public health agreement, supporting sanitized public transport services, as well as creating a hybrid virtual event with a digital element for those who would not be able to attend SIAL in actual.

“Everyone in the SIAL Paris team has remained fully mobilized to support businesses and provide them with this export springboard which is so keenly awaited to get the economy back on track. To enable such an international event to take place during this pandemic-hit period, we put together a multitude of initiatives to safeguard individual and collective safety and maintain the quality of business exchanges and inspiration. In keeping with our mission, it remains our firm intention to keep in touch with our market and accompany the recovery and the transformation of food industry market players.”

The organizers also emphasized that they have worked extensively towards improving each exhibition over past five decades, and will be offering a series of new events from October 2020 onwards dealing successfully with major global issues, latest trends and hi-tech innovations that are set to shape the food industry of the future.

Further, heightened apex of these displays will include deeper studies from its expert partners including from Kantar, ProtéinesXTC and Gira. In addition to the above activities, the group confirmed that it will expand its global network to offer regional growth platforms with major annual gatherings in China, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India and Canada.
