A recently published report by Euromonitor International has acknowledged some important parts where change is driving disruption and investment in the food and nutrition industries. It summaries three areas in particular that you might want to pay attention to in the future.

People are gradually considerate about the quality and healthiness of the food they consume, with the line between foods and supplements becoming dim. For example, yoghurt and sour milk products are making a notable uptick in claims advertising their gut and immune health benefits. Expect consumers to pay more and more attention to these sorts of healthy foods.

The second theme covered is plant-based foods and alternative proteins. Plant-based foods have been popular over the last year. Meat alternatives proved to be especially popular in 2020, posting double-digit growth for the first time in over a decade.

Lastly, the report identifies transparency and traceability as important topics to follow into the future. These themes are so important that 60% of relevant professionals expect supply chain traceability to have the most important impact on their business in coming years.
