The patent covers UFlex’s high-speed twin aseptic packaging machine, while its Asepto business is expanding global capacity with a $126 million plant in Egypt.
UFlex has secured a 20-year Indian patent for its proprietary high-speed twin aseptic packaging machine, strengthening its technology portfolio in the liquid packaging segment.
The Patent Office, Government of India, has granted Patent No. 603158 for the machine, with protection effective from September 1, 2023. The patented technology uses a continuous vertical form-fill-seal configuration designed for high-speed aseptic packaging of liquid products.
According to the company, the technology is designed to reduce the machine’s operational footprint while lowering air and power consumption. The development is expected to support UFlex’s Asepto business as it expands its presence in international markets.
Asepto is also investing $126 million in a greenfield manufacturing facility at Ain Sokhna in Egypt. The 30-acre facility is expected to add 12 billion aseptic packs a year, taking Asepto’s global capacity to around 24 billion packs and effectively doubling its existing capacity. Customer trials at the facility are already underway, with commercial production targeted for the end of 2026.
The patent comes at a time when UFlex has reported strong financial performance. In Q1 FY27, the company’s consolidated net profit rose 629.6% year-on-year to ₹423.3 crore, compared with ₹58 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue increased 37.6% to ₹5,366 crore.
The company’s EBITDA margin also reached 17% in Q1 FY27, described as a 21-quarter high, compared with 12.2% a year earlier.
The combination of proprietary packaging technology and international manufacturing capacity is expected to strengthen Asepto’s position in the growing aseptic packaging market. The Egypt facility will serve customers across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, while reducing reliance on exports from India.
However, the expansion also brings challenges, including the need to absorb the additional capacity, fluctuations in polymer and crude-linked input costs, and geopolitical and logistics risks affecting the Egypt operation.
With the new patent and overseas capacity expansion progressing simultaneously, UFlex is seeking to build Asepto as a technology-led global aseptic packaging business rather than relying solely on its traditional packaging operations.
