No Licence, Big Seizure: Hyderabad Officials Crack Down on Dairy Unit

Recently, food safety officials seized milk and ghee worth ₹7.7 lakh during a raid at an unlicensed dairy distribution unit in Nacharam

The seized items included 632 packets of cow ghee (about 394 kg) worth ₹2.7 lakh and 7,208 milk tetra packs valued at ₹5 lakh. Officials suspect the products may be adulterated.

According to Food Safety Commissioner Sangeeta Satyanarayana, the unit was selling products under the ‘Vijaya’ brand without a valid FSSAI licence. The ghee was manufactured in Gujarat, while the milk tetra packs were produced in Indore. Both were being marketed by Meghana Foods, located in Rikabgunj, Charminar, claiming to be a franchise of a dairy cooperative federation.

However, officials found that the distribution centre in Nacharam was unauthorised, raising concerns about the authenticity and safety of the products.

Samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and the remaining stock has been sealed. A notice has been issued to the operator, and further action will be taken based on the results.

The raid was part of a statewide special enforcement drive. During the drive, officials conducted 71 inspections and collected 91 samples to check quality standards.

Authorities also found several violations across districts, including sale of loose cow and buffalo milk, non-branded ghee, and milk centres operating without valid registration. In some cases, unsafe loose ghee was discarded on the spot.

Officials said action will be taken against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including issuing improvement and show-cause notices.
