Amul to Invest Rs. 700 Crore in West Bengal Dairy Plant, Foundation Stone to Be Laid on June 14

Dairy major Amul is set to strengthen its presence in eastern India with the foundation stone laying ceremony of its proposed Rs 700 crore dairy processing plant in West Bengal on June 14. The event is expected to be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The upcoming facility will be located at the Sankrail Food Park in the Howrah district, where Amul has been allotted 15 acres of land for the project. The investment marks one of the largest dairy sector commitments in the state and is expected to boost milk processing capacity, employment generation, and dairy infrastructure development in the region.

According to Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, the company will invest Rs 700 crore in the project. The plant is designed to process up to 15 lakh litres of milk per day and manufacture around 10 lakh kilograms of dairy products daily, including dahi, mishti doi, yoghurt, lassi, and buttermilk.

The project was first announced during the Bengal Global Business Summit 2025 in Kolkata, where Amul outlined its plans to expand operations in the state.

The development follows recent discussions between Amul officials and West Bengal government representatives regarding investment opportunities and the growth of the dairy sector. State leaders have expressed optimism that the project will contribute significantly to economic development, employment creation, and the strengthening of the state’s dairy ecosystem.

Once operational, the Sankrail facility is expected to become one of Amul’s key manufacturing hubs in eastern India, supporting the company’s efforts to expand its footprint in the region while catering to growing demand for value-added dairy products.
