At Asia’s largest food market, 80 exporters are represented under APEDA gazebo

As APEDA focuses on promoting exports of GI certified agricultural goods, the food exhibition AAHAR 20222 will promote the topic “Geographical Indication Products.”

In collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organization, the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is co-organizing the 36th edition of Asia’s largest B2B international food and hospitality show, AAHAR 2022. (ITPO).

The four-day event, which will take place in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, will begin on April 26.

Keeping Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demand for ‘local for vocal’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in mind, the exhibition will highlight the topic “Geographical Indication Products,” as APEDA focuses on promoting exports of GI certified agricultural products.

As the fair attracts a large number of importers from all over the world, AAHAR is part of a series of export promotion initiatives undertaken by APEDA, which works under the Ministry of Commerce and Trade, to showcase agricultural and processed food products to global players in the food and beverage industry.

Aside from AAHAR, APEDA sponsors national events such as the Organic World Congress, BioFach India, and others to promote agri-exports.

The GI Registry has recognised over 150 food and agricultural goods as GI, with 123 GI items falling under APEDA’s jurisdiction until March 2022.

APEDA has established a 3,000-square-meter theme pavilion in Hall No. 3, Ground Floor at AAHAR, where registered proprietors of GIs can showcase their products.

More than 80 exporters from various agricultural product categories, including as GI goods, processed food, organic, frozen food items, millets, and so on, are participating in the APEDA pavilion.

Ready to Eat (RTE), Ready to Serve (RTS), Ready to Consume (RTC), plant-based meat products, dehydrated products, chocolate, grains, frozen food, herbal products, juices, honey, dairy products, and other products will be showcased at the fair by Indian manufacturers for importers from several leading countries.

APEDA has also set up dedicated stalls for exporters from the North East Region (NER) and Himalayan states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, as well as for women entrepreneurs, Farmer Producers Organizations (FPOs), start-ups, and exporters of millets and millets products. More than 40 people are taking part in these categories, and each one will have its own stand at the APEDA pavilion.

According to DGCI&S statistics, agricultural exports will increase by 19.92% to $50.21 billion in 2021-22. The growth rate is impressive since it exceeds the 17.66% growth rate of $41.87 billion attained in 2020-21, despite extraordinary logistical obstacles such as high freight prices, container shortages, and so forth.

However, APEDA has made history by exporting $25.6 billion in agricultural and processed food goods, accounting for 51% of India’s overall agriculture exports of $50 billion.

“APEDA’s imaginative strategy, aggressive and constant efforts have helped India to establish itself as a consistent and quality provider of agro goods,” stated Dr. M.Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA.

APEDA also launches the registration of horticultural pack-houses in order to fulfil the quality criteria of the worldwide market. The registration of export units for peanut shelling, grading, and processing facilities, for example, is to assure quality compliance for both EU and non-EU nations.

APEDA registers meat processing plants and abattoirs to ensure compliance with worldwide food safety and quality standards. Another important project is the creation and deployment of traceability systems to assure importing nations’ food safety and quality compliances. APEDA develops and disseminates diverse international trade analytical information, market access information among exporters, and addresses trade queries in order to increase exports.
