India is witnessing a sharp rise in late-night food deliveries as football fans stay awake for live FIFA World Cup matches and changing lifestyle habits reshape consumption patterns, according to industry executives.
Quick-service restaurant chains, food delivery platforms and quick commerce operators have reported a 12–15 per cent increase in orders placed during late-night and early morning hours over the past two weeks. Industry players said demand for night-time deliveries had already been growing steadily, with a 10–12 per cent rise over the past year, supported by evolving eating and sleeping routines among younger consumers.
Executives said live telecasts of the FIFA World Cup, being hosted in North America, have further accelerated the trend as match timings extend into late-night and early-morning hours in India.
Restaurant operators are responding by extending operating hours. Food chains have expanded late-night service coverage across key markets to meet rising demand during post-midnight hours.
Food delivery platform data showed burgers and pizzas emerging as the most popular categories between 11 pm and 3 am during the tournament period. Major metros such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai recorded strong demand, while cities including Surat, Thiruvananthapuram and Patna also witnessed increased order activity.
Quick commerce platforms are also benefiting from the trend, with packaged food brands reporting higher demand for products such as ice creams, frozen snacks and chocolates during match hours. Industry executives said demand on match days has been significantly higher compared with normal days.
Companies are increasingly using order history and consumption patterns to optimise inventory and fulfilment strategies for late-night consumers as around-the-clock delivery gains momentum in urban markets.
