India’s agricultural and processed food exports were up 21.8% in April-August

India’s export of agricultural and processed food products rose 21.8% year-on-year in April-August, with rice, fresh fruit and vegetables, and cereals showing growth. According to the commerce and industry ministry, the exports of products under the realm of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) were $7.9 billion in the first five months of the fiscal year, as against $6.4 billion a year ago.

Rice exports increased 13.7% to $3.8 billion from $3.3 billion a year ago. Outbound shipments of fresh fruits and vegetables registered a 6.1% rise, while those of processed food products like cereal preparations grew by 41.9%.

India reported a significant 142.1% jump in the export of other cereals, while the export of meat, dairy, and poultry products witnessed an increase of 31.1% in the first five months of the current fiscal. The export of other cereals increased to $379 million from $157 million in April to August 2020-21, while that of meat, dairy, and poultry products rose to $1.5 billion from $1.1 billion. The cashew exports witnessed a growth of 28.5% in April-August 2021, reaching $185 million from $144 million in the corresponding period of last year, according to the statement.
