McDonald’s Is All Set to Add New McFlurry to Its Menu, Doesn’t Make Sense

We’re simply hoping the ice cream machine is operational so we can sample it.

When you can obtain one, there’s something about a McDonald’s McFlurry that simply strikes you differently. It’s basically vanilla soft serve with some mix-ins, but nothing goes better with a Big Mac and fries.

McDonald’s occasionally adds a seasonal McFlurry to its menu, such as an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry for St. Patrick’s Day earlier this month, in addition to the Oreo McFlurry and M&M McFlurry stalwarts. There’s talk that Mickey D’s is adding a fan-favourite McFlurry from around the world to its US menu.

The Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry, which is already available on the Singapore menu, seems to be making its way to the United States. According to the Instagram account @snackolator, the dish will be available on menus on April 3rd.

Get ready for the Strawberry ‘Shortcake’ McFlurry to arrive at McDonald’s nationwide!

This news comes from the Krazy Coupon Lady and according to their McDonald’s source this will be arriving nationwide April 3rd.

Not here’s the funny part – while they’re calling it a Strawberry *Shortcake* McFlurry, it’s really a strawberry OREO McFlurry because it’s vanilla ice cream mixed with strawberries and OREO cookies.

This is a McFlurry option from Singapore (they call it a strawberry shortcake one there too), so it’s fun to see something come back to the states… but where is the shortcake?!

Are you going to try this one? I think it could be good, but it’s not the most exciting given that it’s just a variation of the OREO McFlurry that we already have. I can also imagine a lot of people going through the drive-thru and ordering a Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry and then going back in to tell them they put OREOs in instead of shortcake pieces… will be fun to see how they do the marketing for this one!
Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry at McDonald’s Singapore is created with vanilla soft serve, strawberry sauce, and Oreo bits. But not the Golden Oreos you might anticipate to give it that “shortcake” flavour. It’s instead stuffed with ordinary chocolate Oreo cookie chunks.
Biscuits are often used to make strawberry shortcake; thus, Golden Oreos would have made more sense for the flavour profile. However, it appears that this McFlurry is more of a chocolate-covered strawberry or strawberry cookies and cream McFlurry.
Despite the name ambiguity, the McFlurry sounds delicious—we just hope it makes it into national menus. McDonald’s does not usually deliver its worldwide favourites to all of its U.S. locations; often, they are only offered at the Global Menu Restaurant in Chicago. Hence, even if Singapore’s Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry becomes a national menu item for a limited time, it may bode well for other worldwide McDonald’s delicacies (we’re looking at you, Chicken Big Mac).
Until we know for certain that the new McFlurry will be added to the menu, we’ll be crossing our fingers and checking the McBroken site to see whether our local Mickey D’s ice cream machine is operational.
